My Story

Dr. Dana Kasper holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and serves as an  Associate Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program within the Department of  Counselor Education and Family Studies at Liberty University. Prior to joining Liberty, she was an  Associate Professor at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, where she  taught in the Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling program.

Dr. Kasper is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor licensed in Ohio, the District of Columbia,  Virginia, California, and Kentucky. She is also an Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental  Health practitioner with more than a decade of clinical experience serving survivors of trauma.  In 2016, she founded Reins of Freedom, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) for individuals who have experienced adversity while advancing  research on the therapeutic benefits of human-horse interactions.

As Clinical Supervisor of Reins of Freedom, Dr. Kasper integrates her Trauma-Informed  Psychobiological Attachment approach grounded in Christian faith. She has collaborated with  organizations including Asbury University's Equine Center in Kentucky and Halo Ranch in  California. At Liberty University, she currently leads a pilot course in Equine-Assisted  Psychotherapy at the Liberty Mountain Equine Center for graduate and doctoral counseling  students. 

Dr. Kasper's clinical work is grounded in psychobiological attachment development theory. Her  advanced training includes Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (Natural  Lifemanship), Equine-Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), Infant and Early  Childhood Mental Health (Advanced Transdisciplinary Mental Health), Advanced Attachment  Training through the Neufeld Institute, Observed and Experiential Integration trauma treatment,  Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Play Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral  Therapy (TF-CBT). 

A passionate advocate for early childhood prevention, Dr. Kasper is committed to promoting  secure attachment, educating parents and caregivers, and increasing awareness of childhood  sexual abuse prevention. As a writer, researcher, and speaker, she is dedicated to integrating  clinical excellence, scholarly inquiry, and Christian faith, attributing her gifts and calling to Christ.
